More About Akebono

Akebono was founded in Japan in 1929 when the Japanese automobile industry produced only 400 cars. The company went public in 1957. Since then, with the advent of the automobile, Akebono has made a name for itself as a brake specialist. In 1960, Akebono signed a contract with the American company Bendix Corporation for technical assistance in the field of brakes. Based on the patents obtained, it began manufacturing drum brakes. Akebono began operating in the U.S. aftermarket in 1980 with sales offices in Chicago and a research and development center in Detroit.
