Buick was founded in 1903 by Scottish industrialist David Dunbar Buick. He built his first car in 1904. It was called the Model B. A then-modern two-cylinder engine powered it. In 1907, Buick launched its first production car with a four-cylinder. It was the Model D. The Model D featured an improved and powerful engine with a modern four-cylinder design. It is a family of V8 produced by Buick between 1953 and 1981. The first version replaced its straight-eight. The volume ranged from 3.5L to 7.5L in the last big-block version in 1976. Between 1953 and 1966, six generations of this engine were used, with displacements ranging from 4.3 to 7.0L. From 1964 to 1981, three versions with standard cast-iron small blocks were used. Some of these V8, such as the 350, 400, and 455, have the same displacement as other brands but are otherwise very different.
The first generation of V8 was produced between 1953 and 1956. It was an overhead valve engine. These characteristics were due to the position of the intake and exhaust valves on the intake manifold side of the "five-wall combustion chamber" used in this series of engines. In the 1950s and 1960s, Buick continued to grow. It was the first vehicle with electric brakes, power steering, and a 12-volt system. A quick look at the 1939 chassis shown above reveals a very different body structure. It ends abruptly at the rear axle cross member. And the typical springs do not extend to the rear bumper. According to the story, it was asked to reduce production costs. And the engineers decided that one solution was to radically change the body design. Apparently, the rear body structure was considered strong and rigid enough without frame beams, and extensive pre-production testing confirmed this conclusion. Midway through the model's production period, the chassis was revised with the addition of a traditional rear subframe, which was placed behind the rear pillar. Both replacement and rebuilt Buick 39 chassis are available, and both appear to be in excellent condition.
2010 saw the return of the classic Buick brand and the introduction of several new brands. The decade also saw the introduction of the first hatchback in 1987.
