You can align the top and bottom of the rear compartment strut with the ball studs on the hinge, install the rear compartment strut onto the upper ball stud, install the rear compartment strut onto the lower ball stud, close the upper and lower strut retainers, remove the support and close the rear compartment.

The procedure is to open the rear compartment, lift the retainer at the bottom and the top of the rear compartment strut, remove the rear compartment strut from the ball studs on the hinge and remove the rear compartment strut from the vehicle.
