FAQ for Wheel Cylinder Repair

Q: What should be noticed during inspection processes?
A:
It is not recommended that dust boots be removed during inspection processes as dirt and debris could contaminate the wheel cylinder bore causing premature wear of the wheel cylinder. In addition, most bores should look damp and some lubricant may drip out from under the boot as a result of lubricant being present.

Q: What is the removal procedure for the wheel cylinder?
A:
You need to install the pin into the park brake lever, raise and suitably support the vehicle, remove the tire and the wheel assembly, the rear brake drum and the rear brake shoes, disconnect the brake pipe from the rear brake cylinder, and remove the rear brake cylinder retaining bolts and the rear brake cylinder.
