The proper way is to remove the fuel sender assembly, replace a contaminated strainer, replace the fuel pump if you find dirt or debris in the fuel pump inlet, flush the Fuel Tank with hot water, pour the water out of the fuel sender assembly opening, and install the fuel sender assembly.
