FAQ for Alloy Wheels Repair

Q: How to replace the tire?
A:
You need to deflate the tire completely first, next use the tire changer to remove the tire from the wheel, and remove any rubber, light rust, or corrosion from the wheel bead seats, then apply GM P/N 12345884 (Canadian P/N 5728223) or equivalent to the tire bead and the wheel rim, then install the tire to the wheel, inflate the tire to the proper air pressure, and ensure that the locating rings are visible on both sides of the tire to verify that the tire bead is fully seated on the wheel.

Q: What should be noticed when serving the Compact Spare Tire?
A:
First, the compact spare wheel should not be used with standard tires, snow tires, wheel covers, or trim rings. If such use is attempted, damage to these items or other parts of the vehicle may occur. The compact spare should be used only on vehicles that offer it as original equipment. Then, you should not take the vehicle through an automatic car wash with the compact spare installed. The vehicle may get caught, which could result in property damage.

Q: How to repair the Aluminum Wheel Porosity?
A:
First, you need to remove the tire and wheel, next inflate the tire to the manufactures specified pressure as stated on the tire, and submerge the tire/wheel into a water bath in order to locate the leak, inscribe a mark on the wheel in order to indicate the leak areas, and inscribe a mark on the tire at the valve stem in order to Indicate the orientation of the tire to the wheel, then remove the tire from the wheel, scuff the inside of the rim surface at the leak area, and clean the leak area, and apply 3 mm (0.12 inch) thick layer of adhesive/sealant, GM P/N 12378478 (Canadian P/N 88900041) or equivalent, to the leak area, then allow for the adhesive/sealant to dry, align the inscribed mark on the tire with the valve stem on the wheel, and install the tire to the wheel, then inflate the tire to the manufactures specified pressure as stated on the tire, then submerge the tire/wheel into a water bath in order ensure the leak is sealed, balance the tire and wheel, and install the tire and wheel, ultimately lower the vehicle.
