The proper way is to install the new swage ring on the neck of the new inner boot, install the new race retaining ring into the inner race, install the new transmission retaining ring onto the cross groove joint assembly, and then install the half-shaft from the vehicle.

The procedure is to remove the half shaft from the vehicle, remove the transmission retaining ring from the cross groove joint assembly, remove the inner boot and the swaging ring from the half shaft bar, and then remove any rust in the boot mounting grooves on the half shaft bar and the cross groove joint boot adapter.

The procedure is to remove the large seal retaining clamp from the CV joint, remove the CV joint assembly from the half shaft bar, remove the half shaft outboard seal from the half shaft bar, remove the first chrome alloy ball, remove the inner race from the cage, and then clean the half shaft bar.

The procedure is to install the new swage ring on the neck of the outboard seal, insert the bolts and tighten by hand until snug, insert the first chrome ball then tilt the cage in the opposite direction to insert the opposing ball, crimp the clamp to 174 Nm (130 ft. lbs.), and then check the gap dimension on the clamp ear.
