29/10/2022Q: What is the proper way to test for a short to ground in circuit with a DMM?
A:
The proper way is to remove the power feed, disconnect the load, set the rotary dial of the DMM to the Ohm position, connect 1 lead of the DMM to 1 end of the circuit to be tested, and connect the other lead of the DMM to a good ground. If the DMM does not display infinite resistance (OL), there is a short to ground in the circuit.

The proper way is to remove the power feed, disconnect the load, connect 1 lead of the test lamp to the battery positive voltage, and connect the other lead of the test lamp to 1 end of the circuit to be tested. If the test lamp illuminates, there is a short to ground in the circuit.
