FAQ for Brake Master Cylinder Bleeder Tool Repair

Q: How to bleed the Master Cylinder Bench?
A:
You should secure the mounting flange of the brake master cylinder in a bench vise, remove the master cylinder reservoir cap and diaphragm, install suitable fittings to the master cylinder ports and the transparent hoses to the fittings, fill the master cylinder reservoir to at least the half-way point with Delco supreme 11, GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid, ensure that the ends of the transparent hoses running into the master cylinder reservoir are fully submerged in the brake fluid, depress and release the primary piston as far as it will travel, a depth of about 25 mm (1 inch), several times, depress and release the primary piston, remove the transparent hoses, install the master cylinder reservoir cap and diaphragm and remove the fittings with the transparent hoses and the master cylinder.

Q: What do we need to do if we have performed a brake master cylinder bench bleeding on this vehicle?
A:
You should ensure that the brake master cylinder reservoir is full to the maximum-fill level, loosen and separate the front brake pipe from the front port of the brake master cylinder, allow a small amount of brake fluid to gravity bleed from the open port of the master cylinder, reconnect the brake pipe to the master cylinder port and tighten securely, depress the brake pedal fully and maintain steady pressure on the pedal, loosen the same brake pipe to purge air from the open port of the master cylinder, release the brake pedal, wait 15 seconds, repeat until all air is purged from the same port of the master cylinder, loosen and separate the rear brake pipe from the master cylinder and ensure that both of the brake pipe-to-master cylinder fittings are properly tightened.

Q: How to bleed the Anti-locked Braking System (ABS)?
A:
You should raise the vehicle to access the system bleed screws, bleed the system at the right rear wheel first, install a clear hose on the bleed screw, immerse the opposite end of the hose into a container, open the bleed screw 1/2 to 1 full turn, depress the brake pedal, release the brake pedal and wait 10-15 seconds for the master cylinder pistons to return to the home position, repeat the previous steps for the remaining wheels, check the master cylinder fluid level every four to six strokes of the brake pedal, press the brake pedal firmly and run the procedure, bleed all four wheels again, evaluate the feel of the brake pedal before attempting to drive the vehicle and bleed the system as many times as necessary to obtain the appropriate feel of the pedal.
