You should position the liftgate struts to the liftgate, install the upper end of the liftgate struts to the ball joint, press into place until fully seated, install the lower end of the liftgate struts to the ball joint, press into place until fully seated, remove the support device from the liftgate and close the liftgate.

You should open and support the liftgate, lift up the retainer clips on the liftgate struts using a small flat-bladed tool and remove the upper end of the liftgate struts from the ball joint, the lower end of the liftgate struts from the ball joint and the liftgate struts from the liftgate.
