FAQ for Power Steering Reservoir Repair

Q: How to disassemble the Power Steering Reservoir-Off Vehicle (CB Series)?
A:
You should place the hydraulic pump on a fixed, flat surface, with the shaft facing upward, insert a screwdriver into the retaining clip tab, force the retaining clip tab outward, slide the reservoir clip away from the hydraulic pump assembly, repeat the above steps to remove the second reservoir clip, remove the reservoir from the hydraulic pump housing and the O-ring seal from the neck of the reservoir or inside the hydraulic pump housing and discard the O-ring seal.

Q: How to diagnose the Excessive Vacuum Drop?
A:
If the vacuum continues to drop, you should remove the pressure and return hose from the pump, install the plugs supplied with the J43485 into the pressure and return port, attach the J43485 to the J35555, place the J43485 on or in the pump reservoir filler neck and apply a vacuum of 68 kPa (20 in-Hg) maximum. If the vacuum drops again, you should repair or replace the pump. If the vacuum holds steady, you should continue to check the other parts of the steering system and be aware of periodic bubbles that indicate a loose connection or leaking O-ring seal in the return hose or the pressure hose.
