A:
The proper way is to apply thread sealer GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent, install the ECT sensor into the cylinder head, connect the ECT sensor electrical connector, and then fill the engine coolant.

Q: What is the removal procedure for the engine coolant temperature sensor?
A:
The procedure is to drain the engine coolant below the level of the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector from the engine wiring harness and the camshaft cover, and then remove the ECT sensor from the cylinder head.
