FAQ for Fuel Tank Filler Neck Repair

Q: What should be noted when using the New Metal Fuel Filler Tubes Without a Flapper Door?
A:
Arevised style of fuel filler tube has changed materials from plastic to metal construction. On plastic fuel filler necks, the metal flapper was included as a safe discharge point for static electricity. With the metal style of the fuel filler tube, the entire neck serves as the static discharge point making the flapper redundant.

Q: What should be noted in the situation where the flapper is not present?
A:
The flapper door located in the fuel filler neck has been eliminated on the current Buick LaCrosse (Buick Allure, Canada Only) in production. This change will be progressively rolled into the other GM products listed above. You should not attempt to change the fuel filler tube because the flapper is not present.
