FAQ for Oil Pan Repair

Q: What is the removal procedure for the oil pan?
A:
The procedure is to remove the engine frame, drain the engine oil, remove the engine oil filter, reinstall the drain plug and oil filter, remove the transaxle converter cover bolt/stud and cover, disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector, remove the engine harness retainer, remove the oil pan bolts and the oil pan, drill out the oil pan gasket retaining rivets, remove the gasket, discard the gasket and rivets and clean and inspect the engine oil pan.

Q: How do you install the oil pan?
A:
You can apply a 5 mm (0.20 inch) bead of sealant GM P/N 12346141 or 12378577 (Canadian P/N 89022195), or an equivalent 20 mm (0.80 inches) long to the engine block, install the gasket, install the oil pan bolts, install the oil pan, gasket and bolts to the engine block, install engine harness, connect the oil level sensor electrical connector, install the transaxle converter cover and bolt/stud, install new engine oil and a new oil filter and install the engine frame.
