FAQ for Throttle Body Repair

Q: What is the Throttle Learn procedure?
A:
You need to start and idle the engine in PARK for 3 minutes, with a scan tool, to monitor desired and actual RPM. The ECM will start to learn the new idle cells and Desired RPM should start to decrease, ignition OFF for 60 seconds, and start and idle the engine in PARK for 3 minutes. After the 3-minute run time, the engine should be idling normally. After the drive cycle, the engine should be idling normally, and once the engine speed has returned to normal, clear DTCs.

Q: What is the throttle body cleaning procedure?
A:
You need to remove the air cleaner outlet duct and inspect the throttle body bore and the throttle plate for deposits. You will need to open the throttle plate to inspect all surfaces. Then you can clean the throttle body bore and the throttle plate using a clean shop towel with GM Top Engine Cleaner, P/N 1052626, or AC-Delco Carburetor Tune-Up Conditioner, P/N X66-P, or an equivalent product and install the air cleaner outlet duct.

Q: How do you install the Throttle Body Assembly?
A:
You need to install a new throttle body gasket to the intake manifold, align the tab of the gasket with the notch in the manifold, install the throttle body, bolts, and nuts, connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the electronic throttle control, install the air cleaner outlet duct, connect a scan tool to test for proper throttle-opening and throttle-closing range and operate the accelerator pedal and monitor the throttle angles. The accelerator pedal should operate freely, without binding, between a closed throttle, and a wide open throttle (WOT), and inspect for coolant leaks.
