FAQ for Power Steering Reservoir Repair

Q: How to remove the Power Steering Reservoir-Off Vehicle?
A:
You need to place the hydraulic pump on a fixed, flat surface, with the shaft facing upward, insert a screwdriver into the retaining clip tab, then use the screwdriver, force the retaining clip tab outward, slide the reservoir clip away from the hydraulic pump assembly, repeat the above steps to remove the second reservoir clip, then remove the reservoir from the hydraulic pump housing, remove and discard the O-ring seal from the neck of the reservoir or inside the hydraulic pump housing.

Q: How to perform the Power Steering System Bleeding?
A:
First, you need to fill the pump reservoir with fluid to the minimum system level, FULL COLD level, or middle of the hash mark on the cap stick fluid level indicator. Next, you fully charge the hydro-boost accumulator if equipped with hydro-boost, then raise the vehicle until the front wheels are off the ground, and key on the engine OFF, turn the steering wheel from stop to stop 12 times. And vehicles equipped with hydro-boost systems or longer-length power steering hoses may require turns up to 15 to 20 stop to stops. Then you should verify the power steering fluid level per operating specification, start the engine, and rotate the steering wheel from left to right. Check for signs of cavitation or fluid aeration (pump noise/whining), and verify the fluid level.
