FAQ for Throttle Body Repair

Q: How to clean the throttle body?
A:
You will need to remove the air intake duct, inspect the throttle body bore and the throttle valve plate for deposits, then clean the throttle body bore and the throttle valve plate using a clean shop towel with GM top engine cleaner, GM P/N 1052626 (Canadian P/N 993026) or AC-Delco Carburetor Tune-Up Conditioner, P/N X66-P, or an equivalent product. Finally, you can install the air intake duct.

Q: What should I know about the throttle learn?
A:
The engine control module (ECM) learns the idle position of the throttle plate to ensure the correct idle. Anytime the throttle body is cleaned or replaced, the ECM must learn the new throttle position. The idle may be unstable or a DTC may be set if the throttle position is not learned.

Q: How to remove the throttle body assembly?
A:
You will need to remove the air cleaner intake duct and the heater outlet pipe, then remove any dirt at the base of the throttle body, then disconnect the TAC module electrical connector, next remove the throttle body bolts and the throttle body, then block the intake manifold opening with a clean shop towel, and remove the throttle body studs only if replacement of stud is necessary.
