FAQ for Alternator Repair

Q: How do you install the generator?
A:
You can install the idler pulley to the generator, the generator and idler pulley together to the vehicle, the power steering fluid reservoir hose clip bracket onto one of the generator bolts, the bolt finger tight, and the A/C compressor/evaporator hose bracket onto the other generator bolt, install the bolt finger tight, tighten the idler pulley/generator bolts, install the power steering reservoir inlet hose clip to the power steering fluid reservoir hose clip bracket, connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the generator, install the battery positive junction block cable terminal to the generator stud and the battery positive junction block cable to generator nut, position the battery positive junction block cable boot over the stud, install the A/C liquid line clamp bolt (2) at the upper radiator support, the engine mount strut bracket, the fuel injector sight shield and the drive belt, and then connect the negative battery cable.

Q: What is the removal procedure for the generator?
A:
The procedure is to disconnect the negative battery cable, remove the drive belt, the fuel injector sight shield, the engine mounts strut bracket, the air conditioning (A/C) liquid line clamp bolt from the upper radiator support, the coolant recovery reservoir bolts and the reservoir tabs from the upper radiator support, reposition the battery positive junction block cable boot, remove the battery positive junction block cable to generator nut and the battery positive junction block cable terminal from the generator stud, disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the generator, loosen the idler pulley bolt and slide the pulley out as far as possible, and then remove the generator bolts, the A/C compressor/evaporator hose bracket, the power steering fluid reservoir hose clip bracket from against the generator, the generator and idler pulley together from the vehicle and the idler pulley from the generator.
