FAQ for Drive Belt Repair

Q: What may be the cause of intermittent stiff steering, intermittent steering effort hard, intermittent compressor noise when AC is on, and intermittent drive belt squeal/chirp?
A:
It may be caused by water splashing onto the drive belt and causing the belt to slip on the pulleys.

Q: What will need to be done before replacing the Drive Belt?
A:
You will need to raise the vehicle, rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the drive belt tension, slide the drive belt off of the belt idler pulley, and then slowly release the drive belt tensioner.

Q: How do you correct these conditions?
A:
You should inspect the right front inner wheel well for a splash shield, and replace both front inner wheel well front liners with a second design (see part numbers below) if the vehicle does not have the splash shield as seen above, drill two 8 mm (0.315 in) holes into the cradle to attach the lower splash shield to the cradle, use the lower splash shield as a template to show where to drill the holes, get two retainers, P/N 21030249 or equivalent, to attach the lower splash shield to the cradle, drill holes in the cradle for the retainers, and then apply an anti-corrosion material to the holes.
