FAQ for Steering Gearbox Repair

Q: How to remove the Steering Gear (with All Wheel Drive)?
A:
First, you need to install the engine support fixture, remove the front air deflector, place drain pans under the vehicle, separate the lower intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear, separate the steering linkage outer tie rods from the steering knuckles, separate the lower control arms from the steering knuckles and remove the power steering gear inlet pipe bracket bolt. Then, please remove any fasteners attaching the power steering gear inlet and outlet hoses to the frame, separate the power steering gear inlet and outlet hoses from the steering gear, support the front frame with jack stands as needed, and remove the left and right side engine mount bolts from the front frame. You also need to disconnect any electrical harnesses from the front frame, disconnect the power steering gear solenoid electrical connector, remove the front frame bolts and lift the vehicle on the hoist until there is enough room to remove the steering gear from the vehicle. Finally, you should remove the steering gear bolts and remove the steering gear from the front frame.
