FAQ for Timing Cover Repair

Q: How to remove the Engine Front Cover?
A:
First, you need to remove the engine cover and remove the upper intake manifold with the lower intake manifold (on models equipped with LP1 and LY7 engines), remove the intake manifold (on models equipped with LLT engines), or remove the camshaft covers (on all models). Then, please drain the engine coolant, disconnect the purge vent hose from the water outlet, remove the water outlet with the radiator hose and reposition aside, remove the accessory drive belts, the A/C compressor and power steering belt tensioner, the generator bracket with the generator and the belt tensioner, and remove the power steering fluid reservoir and reposition the power steering fluid reservoir to provide access. You also need to remove the power steering pump pulley, the power steering pump upper front bolt and loosen the remaining two bolts, remove the crankshaft balancer, the oil control valves, and the engine front cover with the water pump, disassemble the engine front cover as necessary. Finally, you should carefully clean the engine front cover sealing surfaces and use compressed air to remove any engine coolant from the engine cooling passages and the top of the oil pan scraper (windage tray).
