Q: How to diagnose the Universal Joint noise?
A:
If one or more of the universal joints are worn or damaged, you should replace the propeller shaft assembly. If one or more of the universal joints have lost lubricant, you should replace the propeller shaft assembly. If the rubber coupling bolts become loose at the transmission or axle, you should tighten the bolts to specifications. If bolts are loose at the propeller shaft flange and coupling, you should tighten the bolts to specifications.

Q: How to diagnose Squeak Noise?
A:
It occurs when driving the vehicle at various speeds a squeaking sound occurs. If one or more of the universal joints have lost lubricant, you should replace the driveshaft completely and if the C/V boot is worn or torn, you should also replace the driveshaft completely.

Q: How to remove the Front Propeller Shaft?
A:
You should raise and support the vehicle, remove the propeller shaft heat shield and the propeller shaft CV joint-to-differential flange bolts, install a flat-bladed tool into the notch on the differential flange, carefully move the propeller shaft toward the rear of the vehicle in order to release the propeller shaft CV joint from the differential pinion flange, remove the propeller shaft CV joint-to-transfer case flange bolts, install a flat-bladed tool into the notch on the transfer case flange, move the propeller shaft toward the front of the vehicle and remove the propeller shaft from the transfer case flange and inspect the propeller shaft.

A:
Ascraping noise occurs when driving the vehicle at various speeds. If the pinion flange deflector or the center bearing is rubbing, you should correct the interference as necessary. If the cause is center bearing heat shield or exhaust pipe contact, you should correct the interference as necessary.

Q: How to diagnose the Ping, Snap, or Click Noise?
A:
Aping, snap or click is usually heard on the initial load after the transmission is in gear, either in forward or reverse. If a loose pinion yoke or companion flange, you should tighten the bolts and the pinion nut to the specified torque. If the cause is loose rubber coupling, you should tighten the bolts to the specified torque. If one or more of the universal joints are worn or damaged, you should replace the propeller shaft assembly. If the cause is heat shield interference, you should eliminate interference.

Q: How to diagnose the Shudder on Acceleration at Low Speed?
A:
When the vehicle is accelerating at low speed, a shudder occurs. If the driveline center bearing splined shaft angle, you should determine if the driveline angle is incorrect then correct it as necessary. If one or more of the universal joints are worn or damaged, you should replace the driveshaft completely. If the rubber coupling bolts are loose, you should tighten the bolts to specifications.

Q: How to service correction of Knock or Clunk noise?
A:
Knocking or clunking noise occurs when operating the vehicle in high gear or coasting in neutral at 16 km/h (10 mph). If the C/V joint is worn or loose/ripped boot, you should replace the propeller shaft assembly and if the side gear hub counterbore in the differential is worn, you should replace the differential case and/or the side gears.
