FAQ for Valve Spring Repair

Q: What's the proper way to remove the valve stem oil seal and valve spring?
A:
The proper way is to remove the spark plug, and the rocker arm, install the J 22794 into the spark plug port, using caution so as not to damage the valve spring or valve spring dampener, compress the valve spring using the J 5892-D and the EN-47823, then remove the valve spring cap keys, the valve cap, the valve spring, and the valve stem oil seal.

Q: What should you be careful about when compressing valve springs?
A:
Valve springs can be tightly compressed. You will need to use care when removing retainers and plugs or personal injury could result.

Q: What should be done before removing the valve locks?
A:
Before removing the valve locks, you can rotate the engine so that the piston in the cylinder you are working on is at the top dead center (TDC). This will eliminate the possibility of the valve accidentally falling inside the cylinder. You should also loosen the spark plug, and clean any dirt and/or debris from the spark plug recess area before removing it.
