FAQ for Rack And Pinion Seal Repair

Q: How do you install the Drive Pinion Flange/Yoke and/or Oil Seal?
A:
You can install a new pinion oil seal, apply sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the splines of the pinion yoke, install the drive pinion yoke, install the washer and a new pinion nut, install the rear propeller shaft, inspect and add axle lubricant to the axle housing and lower the vehicle.

Q: How do you remove the Drive Pinion Flange/Yoke and/or Oil Seal?
A:
You can raise and support the vehicle, remove the rear propeller shaft, place an alignment mark between the pinion and the pinion yoke, install the J 8614-01, remove the washer, remove the pinion nut, and washer, install the J 8614-2 and the J 8614-3 into the J 8614-01, remove the pinion yoke and remove the pinion oil seal.

A:
The required tools are the J 44414 Pinion Seal Installer, J 22912-B Bearing Puller, J 24433 Pinion Cone and Side Bearing Installer, J 37624 Pinion Bearing Installer, J 8092 Driver Handle, J 8608 Rear Pinion Bearing Race Installer and J 8614-01 Flange/Pulley Holding Tool.
