FAQ for Camshaft Position Sensor Repair

Q: How do I remove the Camshaft Position Sensor (RPOs LY2, LC9, LY5, LMG)?
A:
You should raise and support the vehicle, disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the CMP sensor wire harness and remove the CMP sensor wire harness bolts (705, and 738), the CMP sensor wire harness (737) and the CMP sensor (703) and O-ring seal (704).

Q: What should be noted when serving the Camshaft Position Actuator Removal and Installation?
A:
You cannot push or pull on the reluctor wheel of the camshaft position (CMP) actuator during removal or installation. The reluctor wheel is retained to the front of the CMP actuator by 3 roll pins. Pushing or pulling on the wheel may dislodge the wheel from the front of the actuator. The actuator return spring is under tension and may rotate the dislodged reluctor wheel, causing personal injury.

Q: How do I install the Camshaft Position Sensor (RPOs LY2, LC9, LY5, LMG)?
A:
You should inspect the CMP O-ring seal for cuts or damage, lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil, install the O-ring seal (704) onto the sensor, install the CMP sensor (703) to the front cover, install the CMP sensor wire harness (737) and the CMP sensor wire harness bolts (705, and 738), connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the CMP sensor wire harness and lower the vehicle.
