You should rotate the hoist shaft counterclockwise to lower the spare tire to the ground and continue to rotate the shaft until the spare tire can be pulled out from under the vehicle and removed. If the spare tire does not lower to the ground, the secondary latch is engaged causing the tire not to lower, you should raise and support the vehicle if it is not already raised, depress the tabs, remove the guide shaft from the hoist collar, and slide the shaft toward the bumper, remove the collar from the hoist, remove the bolt, remove the hoist from the bracket and remove the Spare Tire Hoist shaft guide from the bumper.

You should remove the catalytic converter, remove the muffler assembly and remove the left front Floor Panel exhaust heat shield nuts and heat shield. If the vehicle is a Tahoe, Yukon, Yukon Denali, or Escalade, you should remove the exhaust heat shield nuts and heat shields. If the vehicle is a Suburban, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali XL, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, or an Avalanche, you should remove the exhaust heat shield nuts and heat shields and then remove the rear floor panel exhaust heat shield nuts and heat shield, as required.

You should remove the headlamps and the grille support and disconnect the Hood Latch cable.
