Q: How to replace the Steering Wheel Position Sensor?
A:
You should disconnect any electrical connectors as needed. When reusing a steering wheel position sensor, you must install a pin into the sensor before removal, or the sensor will lose its centered position and must be discarded. The pin diameter must be in the range of 1-2 mm. A new steering wheel position sensor will come with a pin installed in the sensor. The steering wheel position sensor will already come centered. You can not remove the pin until the steering wheel position sensor is properly seated. During installation, the steering wheel position sensor must be set with approximately a 3 mm gap between it and the bearing adapter.

Q: What should be noticed in removing the Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering?
A:
With the wheels of the vehicle facing straight ahead, you should secure the steering wheel utilizing a steering column anti-rotation pin, steering column lock, or a strap to prevent rotation. Locking the steering column will prevent damage and a possible malfunction of the SIR system. The steering wheel must be secured in position before disconnecting the steering column, intermediate shaft(s), and steering gear. After disconnecting these components, you can not rotate the steering wheel or move the front tires and wheels.

Q: What should be noticed in installing the Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering?
A:
If you are reusing the existing sensor, centering the old sensor is not necessary. If you are installing a new sensor, the new sensor will come with a pin. Do not remove the pin until the sensor is seated.
