FAQ for Transmission Control Module Repair

Q: What should we know about the control solenoid valve and module assembly?
A:
You should inspect the 4 filter plate retaining tabs. A broken tab may not adequately secure the filter plate to the control solenoid valve assembly. And you should align the control solenoid valve assembly with the lower valve body locator pin when assembling. If a replacement transmission control module is installed, you should program the module. Then you should reset the transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) values.

Q: What should we know about the transfer case shift control module?
A:
You should disconnect the electronic connector, remove the module from the module bracket by releasing the retaining tabs, and if installing a new module, you should perform the transfer case shift control module programming and setup.

Q: What should we know about the 4L60-E/4L65-E/4L70-E-Automatic Transmission?
A:
You should disconnect the CM electrical connector. Twisting or tilting of the transmission control module electrical connector while disconnecting may result in bent or misaligned electrical terminal pins. It is recommended that transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) information be reset. Resetting the TAP values using a scan tool will erase all learned values in all cells. As a result, The engine control module (ECM), power train control module (PCM), or CM will need to relearn TAP values. Transmission performance may be affected as new TAP values are learned. You should reset the TAP values.
