Q: How do you install the Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod (Two-Mode Hybrid)?
A:
You need to install the new steering linkage inner tie rod washer on the steering gear rack, apply LOCTITE(R)262 or equivalent to the steering linkage inner tie rod threads, attach the steering linkage inner tie rod to the steering gear rack and hand tighten it, tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod using wrench CH-49009, align the new steering linkage inner tie rod washer to the flats on the steering linkage inner tie rod and bend the tabs over the flats and install the steering gear boot.

Q: How do I replace the Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod?
A:
You need to use puller J 24319-B to separate the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering knuckle, inspect the steering linkage inner tie rod for bent or damaged threads, clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle, lubricate the steering linkage inner tie rod threads with chassis lubricant and adjust the front toe.

You need to support the rear drive axle before removing either of the mounting bolts and finger-tighten the mounting bolt. This will allow for movement in the rear axle tie rod to align the opposite end mounting bolt and hole.

Q: How do you install the Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod?
A:
You need to remove all traces of oil, grease, or other contaminants, clean the threads of the steering linkage inner tie rod with denatured alcohol or the equivalent and allow them to dry, apply red LOCTITE(TM) thread locker, GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the threads of the steering linkage inner tie rod, install the steering linkage inner tie rod to the relay rod using wrench J 34028, the steering linkage outer tie rod and the engine shield and adjust the front toe.

You need to remove the steering gear boot, disengage the steering linkage inner tie rod washer from the steering linkage inner tie rod, and rotate the steering linkage inner tie rod counterclockwise while holding the steering gear rack stationary until the steering linkage inner tie rod separates from the steering gear rack and discard the steering linkage inner tie rod washer.
