FAQ for A/C Hose Repair

Q: How to install the Suction Screen?
A:
First, you need to use a caliper that reads to 3 decimal places to measure the ID of the suction hose or manifold suction fitting, select and install the correct mandrel on the threaded portion of the installation tool bolt, and install the 11.96 mm (0.471 in) screen in the middle of the reduced diameter point of the fitting. Then, please place the suction hose fitting or suction hose side of the manifold into the installation tool fixture J-44551-5, lubricate the A/C suction screen with the applicable refrigerant oil, align the screen, basket first, into the suction hose bore then hand tighten the bolt until contact is made between the hose, screen, and tool. Finally, you should turn the bolt of the installation tool clockwise pressing the screen into the bore until the mandrel shoulder contacts the end of the hose fitting, unscrew the bolt and remove the installation tool from the hose or manifold, install the J-44551-1 Suction Screen Notification Label, and install the A/C compressor hose assembly to the A/C compressor.

Q: How to remove the Suction Screen?
A:
First, you need to remove the A/C compressor hose assembly from the A/C compressor. Then, please place the tip of the tool under the inside edge of the compression band of the suction screen and the cushioning fulcrum pad against the open end of the hose or manifold fitting. Finally, you should pry upward on the band and move the tool around the diameter of the screen as necessary to remove the screen.

Q: How to remove the Air Conditioning Compressor Hose (LL8) (4.2L)?
A:
First, you need to recover the refrigerant, remove the compressor hose assembly nut, remove the compressor hose assembly, and remove the sealing washers. Then, please remove the compressor suction hose nut and the compressor suction hose from the accumulator, remove the O-ring seal, remove the bolt from the lift bracket, remove the nut from the engine stud, and remove the compressor discharge hose from the condenser. Finally, you should remove the nut from the compressor hose connection in the driver wheel opening, remove the O-ring seals, and cap or plug all of the open connections.
