FAQ for Brake Master Cylinder Bleeder Tool Repair

Q: What should you do if you have performed a brake master cylinder bench bleeding on this vehicle, or if you disconnected the brake pipes from the master cylinder?
A:
First, you should ensure that the brake master cylinder reservoir is full to the maximum-fill level. If removal of the reservoir cap and diaphragm is necessary, you should clean the outside of the reservoir on and around the cap before removal. With the rear brake pipe installed securely to the master cylinder, you should loosen and separate the front brake pipe from the front port of the brake master cylinder. Then, please allow a small amount of brake fluid to gravity bleed from the open port of the master cylinder, reconnect the brake pipe to the master cylinder port and tighten securely. You also need to have an assistant slowly depress the brake pedal fully and maintain steady pressure on the pedal, loosen the same brake pipe to purge air from the open port of the master cylinder and tighten the brake pipe, then have the assistant slowly release the brake pedal. Finally, you should wait 15 seconds, then repeat the steps above until all air is purged from the same port of the master cylinder. With the front brake pipe installed securely to the master cylinder, after all, the air has been purged from the front port of the master cylinder, you should loosen and separate the rear brake pipe from the master cylinder, then repeat the steps above. After completing the final master cylinder port bleeding procedure, you should ensure that both of the brake pipe-to-master cylinder fittings are properly tightened.

Q: What should you do if the brake pedal feels spongy?
A:
First, you should inspect the brake system for external leaks. Then, please use a scan tool to perform the antilock brake system automated bleeding procedure to remove any air that may have been trapped in the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV).

Q: What should be noticed when adding fluid to the brake master cylinder reservoir?
A:
You can only use Delco Supreme 11(R), GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container.

Q: What is the Antilock Brake System Automated Bleed Procedure?
A:
First, you need to raise the vehicle to access the system bleed screws, bleed the system at the right rear wheel first, install a clear hose on the bleed screw and immerse the opposite end of the hose into a container partially filled with clean GM approved brake fluid. Then, please open the bleed screw 1/2 to 1 full turn, depress the brake pedal, release the brake pedal and wait 10-15 seconds for the master cylinder pistons to return to the home position. This procedure may use more than a pint of fluid per wheel. You should check the master cylinder fluid level every four to six strokes of the brake pedal to avoid running the system dry. Finally, you should press the brake pedal firmly and run the Scan Tool Automated Bleed Procedure, release the brake pedal between each test, evaluate the feel of the brake pedal before attempting to drive the vehicle, and bleed the system as many times as necessary to obtain the appropriate feel of the pedal.

Q: What special tools are needed when performing the Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure)?
A:
You need to use the J-29532-Diaphragm Pressure Bleeder, or equivalent, and the J-35589-A-Brake Pressure Bleeder Adapter.
