FAQ for Camshaft Repair

Q: How to remove the Camshaft Position Exhaust Actuator?
A:
First, you need to remove the camshaft cover and rotate the engine until the word Delphi on the exhaust camshaft position actuator is lined up parallel with the cylinder head to the cam cover mating surface. Then, please use the timing mark on the exhaust camshaft position actuator sprocket as a reference to make a mark on the timing chain link across from it and install the J-44217. Finally, you should remove the exhaust camshaft position actuator bolt and the exhaust camshaft position actuator.

Q: How to install the Camshaft?
A:
First, you need to coat the camshaft journals, the camshaft journal thrust face and the camshaft lobes with clean engine oil. Then, please install the intake and exhaust camshafts to their original positions, install the J 44221 with the camshaft flats up and the number 1 cylinder at the top dead center, and install the camshaft caps and bolts. Finally, you should remove the J 44221, move the sprockets back onto the camshafts and remove the J 44222, install the intake camshaft sprocket washer and bolt, and the exhaust camshaft actuator bolt and install the camshaft cover.

Q: How to remove the Camshaft?
A:
First, you need to remove the camshaft cover, and the intake and the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolts. Then, please install the J 44222 onto the cylinder head and adjust the horizontal bolts into the camshaft sprockets to maintain chain tension and keep from disturbing the timing chain components. Finally, you should move the sprockets with the timing chain, off of the camshafts, remove the camshaft cap bolts, the camshaft caps and store, and the camshafts.
