Q: How to remove the parking brake rear cable-left side (AWD)?
A:
First, you should disable the parking brake cable adjuster, turn the ignition to the OFF position and raise and support the vehicle. Then, you should remove the tire and wheel and the parking brake shoes and lower the rear suspension support. After that, you should disconnect the left parking brake cable fitting, compress the locking tabs on the left parking brake cable conduit and remove the cable from the rear frame bracket and the left parking brake actuator assembly spring clip. Then, you should press the parking brake actuator arm inward, release the parking brake rear cable fitting, grasp the parking brake rear cable and pull the cable assembly inward to release the cable conduit from the rear suspension knuckle. Finally, you should remove the parking brake rear cable.

Q: How to release the manual parking brake cable tension?
A:
First, you should raise and support the vehicle. The protective plug for the manual release is located near the electrical connector. Then, you should remove the protective plug from the electronic park brake (EPB) manual release and use an appropriate square-drive tool to rotate the mechanism clockwise until the tension is fully released from the parking brake cables. Up to 50 cycles may be required until the parking brake cable tension is fully released. Finally, you should install the protective plug on the EPB module.

Q: How to remove the parking brake intermediate cable?
A:
First, you should disable the parking brake cable adjuster, turn the ignition to the off position and raise and support the vehicle. If equipped with AWD, you should lower the rear suspension support by approximately 152-254 mm (6-10 in) to access the cable connectors. Then, you should disconnect the parking brake intermediate cable from the electronic parking brake control module, the left parking brake rear cable fitting from the park brake cable, and the right parking brake rear cable fitting from the park brake cable. Finally, you should remove the parking brake intermediate cable clip bolt and the parking brake intermediate cable.

Q: How to enable the parking brake cable adjuster without a scan tool?
A:
First, you should block the drive wheels and turn the ignition switch to the on/run position with the engine off. Then, you should apply the brake pedal and place the automatic transmission in the park or the manual transmission in neutral, as equipped. Then, you should momentarily lift then release the EPB the electronic park brake (EPB) switch to apply the EPB and press down then release the EPB switch to release the EPB. You should repeat to cycle the EPB on and then off an additional 4 times. The EPB module will be calibrated and proper tension will be applied to the parking brake cables.
