You should first raise and support the vehicle and place a drain pan under the oil drain plug. Then, you should remove the oil pan drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely. After that, you should install the oil pan drain plug and use a 32 mm (1 1/4 in) socket on the hex on top of the Oil Filter cap, or an oil filter wrench on the outside diameter of the oil filter cap. Finally, you should remove the oil filter cap and filter and filter from the cap.

Contamination of the Oxygen Sensor can result from the use of an inappropriate RTV sealant (not oxygen sensor safe) or excessive engine coolant or oil consumption. You should remove the HO2S and visually inspect the portion of the sensor exposed to the exhaust stream to check for contamination. If contaminated, the portion of the sensor exposed to the exhaust stream will have a white powdery coating. Silicon contamination causes a high but false HO2S signal voltage (rich exhaust indication). The control module will then reduce the amount of fuel delivered to the engine, causing a severe drivability problem. You should eliminate the source of contamination before replacing the oxygen sensor.
