Next, pull rearward on the front park brake cable until the tension is released from the tool installed in the pedal assembly. Remove the tool and slowly release the park brake cable until it returns to its original position and releases the brake pedal. Lower the vehicle and apply the brakes 3x.

First, make sure that the park brake is released. Disable the brake cable automatic adjuster and lift/support the vehicle. Disconnect the left rear brake cable from the equalizer on the intermediate brake cable. Next remove the park brake cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs, the nut, and the bolt securing the park brake cable to the rear axle housing bracket, Release the cable from the cable guides on the vehicle frame. Remove the park brake cable from the actuator lever, the park brake cable from the backing plate, and the cable.

Q: How do I adjust the parking brake cable?
A:
Start with lifting and supporting the vehicle. Hold the pedal in the full upward position. Pull rearward on the front park brake cable until the pedal drum reaches its full reset position. Insert a thin tool on an upward angle through the hole in the front of the pedal assembly, past the retracted pedal drum, and into the hole in the back of the pedal assembly. Slowly release the cable and remove the component that requires service.
