FAQ for Automatic Transmission Shifter Cable Repair

Q: How do I install the floor shift control cable?
A:
Start with inserting the cable through the floor pan and installing the grommet flush with the floor opening, then attach the driver-side front carpet. Connect the shift cable to the shift assembly, next you'll need to install the console. Connect the shift cable to the position switch and transmission cable bracket. You will then need to lower the vehicle and check the function of the shift control cable.

Q: How do I remove the floor shift control cable?
A:
After lifting the vehicle, remove the shaft cable retaining nut near the exhaust heat shield and the shift cable from the transmission bracket, and you will need to lower the vehicle. Disconnect the cable from the park switch position switch and remove the console. Then you'll need to disconnect the cable from the shift control assembly. Move the floor carpet, and separate the grommet from the floor pan. Now you can remove the cable from the vehicle by pulling the cable through the driver floor opening.
