FAQ for Timing Chain Repair

Q: How do you install the timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, camshaft position actuator, and solenoid valve?
A:
You can install the key into the crankshaft keyway, tap the key into the keyway, install the crankshaft sprocket onto the front of the crankshaft, compress the timing chain tensioner guide and install the EN 46330, install the timing chain tensioner and bolts, identify the alignment hole in the rear face of the CMP actuator and the locating pin on the front face of the camshaft, align the CMP actuator so the timing mark is in the 6 o'clock position, install the CMP actuator and timing chain, the actuator completely onto the front of the camshaft and a NEW CMP actuator valve, remove the EN 46330, tighten the CMP actuator bolt, remove the J 42386-A, and then install the oil pump.

Q: What is the removal procedure for the timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, camshaft position actuator, and solenoid valve?
A:
The procedure is to remove the oil pump, rotate the crankshaft sprocket, install the J 42386-A, remove and discard the CMP actuator solenoid valve, loosen and separate the CMP actuator and timing chain from the camshaft, remove the CMP actuator and timing chain, insert and secure a tie strap through the center of the actuator and over the reluctor wheel, remove the timing chain tension bolts and tensioner, and then remove the crankshaft sprocket, the crankshaft sprocket and the crankshaft sprocket key if required.
