FAQ for Hood Release Cable Repair

Q: How to install the Hood Primary Latch Release Cable?
A:
You need to attach the mechanic's wire to the exterior end of the cable, guide the cable underneath the sound insulation, pass the exterior portion of the cable through the cowl panel, and install the cable to the release handle. Then you need to seat the cable grommet to the cowl panel, install the release handle to the knee bolster, install the bolts that retain the release handle to the knee bolster, and route the cable as previously noted. After that, you need to attach the cable to the retainers on the inner fender and install the cable to the hood latch assembly. Finally, you need to install the latch hood latch and the grille.

Q: How to remove the Hood Primary Latch Release Cable?
A:
You need to remove the grille and the hood latch and release the hood latch release cable from the hood latch assembly. Then you need to attach a length of mechanic's wire to the exterior end of the cable, note the routing of the cable for later installation, and release the retainers securing the cable to the inner fender and the radiator support. After that, you need to push the cable grommet through the cowl panel and into the interior of the vehicle, remove the bolts attaching the hood release handle to the knee bolster and remove the cable from the release handle, and you also need to pull the cable the rest of the way through the cowl panel and out from behind the sound insulation. Finally, you need to detach the mechanic's wire from the cable and remove the cable.
