FAQ for Air Bag Clockspring Repair

Q: What should I notice in the Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Coil removal procedure?
A:
With the wheels of the vehicle facing straight ahead, secure the steering wheel utilizing a steering column anti-rotation pin, steering column lock, or a strap to prevent rotation. Locking the steering column will prevent damage and a possible malfunction of the SIR system. The steering wheel must be secured in position before disconnecting the following components.

Q: What should I notice in the Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Coil installation procedure?
A:
The new SIR coil assembly will be centered. Improper alignment of the SIR coil assembly may damage the unit, causing an inflatable restraint malfunction. You do not remove the centering tab from the new inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil until the installation is complete. If the centering tab is missing then re-center the assembly.
