FAQ for Fuel Injector Repair

Q: What does preventative maintenance for due to variations in fuel quality in different areas of the country?
A:
Due to variations in fuel quality in different areas of the country, the only preventative maintenance currently endorsed by GM regarding its gasoline engine fuel systems is the addition of GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS, P/N 88861011 (for U.S. ACDelco(R), use P/N 88861013) (in Canada, P/N 88861012), added to a tank of fuel at each oil change.

Q: What should be noticed when subtracting the lowest fuel pressure drop from the highest fuel pressure drop?
A:
If the value is 15 kPa (2 psi) or less, no additional action is required. If the value is greater than 15 kPa (2 psi), replace the injector with the lowest fuel pressure drop.

Q: What should be noticed when cleaning the fuel injector?
A:
You should not use other cleaning agents and GM Top-Engine Cleaner is the only injector cleaning agent recommended. Under no circumstances should the top engine cleaner be added to the vehicle's fuel tank, as it may damage the fuel pump and other system components. You should not exceed a 10 percent cleaning solution concentration because higher concentrations may damage fuel system components.

Q: What should be noticed when removing the fuel injectors?
A:
You should use care in removing the fuel injectors to prevent damage to the fuel injector electrical connector pins or the fuel injector nozzles, and you should not immerse the fuel injector in any type of cleaner. The fuel injector is an electrical component and may be damaged by this cleaning method.
