You can apply a thin, light coat of high-temperature silicone brake lubricant to the brake shoe contact surfaces of the brake backing plate, position the hook end of the J 38400 under the universal spring, lightly pull the universal spring end out, install the park brake cable, position the hook end of the J 38400 under the universal spring, lightly pull the universal spring end out, spread the top of the brake shoes apart, install the adjuster assembly, install the adjuster actuator lever, install the adjuster spring, adjust the drum brakes, install the brake drum, install the tire and wheel assembly and lower the vehicle.

You can raise the vehicle, remove the tire and wheel assembly, remove the brake drum, remove the adjuster spring, remove the adjuster actuator lever, spread the top of the brake shoes apart, remove the adjuster assembly, position the hook end of the J 38400 under the universal spring, lightly pull the universal spring end out of the shoe web hole, release the park brake cable from the park brake lever on the secondary shoe, position the hook end of the J 38400 under the universal spring and lightly pull the universal spring end out of the shoe web hole.
