2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Shock Absorber

You can install the lower insulator, the spring bumper, the coil spring, the upper insulator, the spring seat, the dust seal, and the strut support, mount the strut assembly into the J 34013-B, compress the coil spring, install the strut rod piston nut, pack the strut support with the wheel bearing lubricant GM P/N 1051344 (Canadian P/N 933037), install the dust cap, release the compressed coil spring, remove the strut and install the strut assembly.

You can scribe the knuckle along the lower outboard strut radius, scribe the strut flange on the inboard side along the curve of the knuckle, make a scribe mark across the strut/knuckle interface and match the marks to the components during reassembly.

The procedure is to make an indentation 10 mm (0.4 in) from the bottom of the tube, clamp the shock absorber in a vise horizontally, drill a hole in the shock absorber at the centerpunch, make an indentation in the middle of the tube, drill a second hole in the shock absorber at the centerpunch and remove the shock absorber from the vise.

You can remove the strut assembly, mount the J 34013-B into the J 3289-20, install the strut assembly into the J 34013-B, compress the coil spring, remove the dust cap and the strut rod piston nut, release the compressed spring, remove the strut assembly and remove the strut support, the dust seal, the spring seat, the upper insulator, the coil spring, and the lower insulator.
