Q: How do you test for short to ground with a DMM?
A:
You can remove the power feed (i.e. fuse, control module) from the suspect circuit, disconnect the load, then set the rotary dial of the DMM to the ohm position, connect one lead of the DMM to one end of the circuit to test, connect the other lead of the DMM to a good ground. If the DMM does NOT display infinite resistance (OL), there is a short to ground in the circuit.

Q: How to remove the receptacle?
A:
First, you can look into the receptacle. There are two 3 mm (0.11 in) tab windows 12 mm (0.47 in) from the front of the receptacle. The J 42059 pushes the plastic latches from these tab windows and the receptacle can be pulled straight out. Second, you can place one side of the °T° portion of the J 42059 into the tab window. The J 42059 will not fit straight into the receptacle. You can angle the J 42059 slightly for insertion into the receptacle. Then you insert the other side of the °T° into the opposite tab window. You must move the J 42059 handle horizontally to engage the other tab window. Finally, you can use the J 42059 to pull the receptacle straight out.
