Q: How to test for short to ground about cigarette lighter with a test lamp?
A:
The procedure is to remove the power feed (i.e. fuse, control module) from the suspect circuit, disconnect the load, connect one lead of the test lamp to battery positive voltage, and connect the other lead of the test lamp to one end of the circuit to be tested. If the test lamp illuminates, there is a short to ground in the circuit.

Q: What is the removal procedure for the Cigar Lighter Receptacle or 12-Volt Accessory Power Receptacle?
A:
The procedure is to remove the cigar lighter fuse, remove the cigar lighter element, remove the cigar lighter socket, pull the lighter socket straight out, remove the tool from the lighter socket, pull the cigar lighter socket and cigar lighter retainer out of the ashtray, disconnect the electrical connector from the cigar lighter, and remove the cigar lighter retainer from the cigar lighter socket.

The procedure is to install the cigar lighter retainer to the ashtray, connect the electrical connector to the cigar lighter socket, align the cigar lighter key way to the key slot in the retainer ring, press the cigar lighter into place until the cigar lighter socket is fully seated, install the cigar lighter fuse, and install the cigar lighter element.

Q: How to test for short to ground about cigarette lighter with a DMM?
A:
The procedure is to remove the power feed (i.e. fuse, control module) from the suspect circuit, disconnect the load, set the rotary dial of the DMM to the ohm position, connect one lead of the DMM to one end of the circuit to be tested, and connect the other lead of the DMM to a good ground. If the DMM does not display infinite resistance (OL), there is a short to ground in the circuit.
