The park/neutral safety switch is a modern vehicle because it keeps your car from starting unless the car is set to neutral or parked.
Park position switch functionMostly all transmission cars have a safety device that only allows them to start up the vehicle in park or neutral gears. The transmission position switch makes sure that the vehicle is in the park or neutral gear before it starts up. So power is not transmitted to the start circuit unless the sensor reads the vehicle is in the park gear. A sign that the vehicle is not in the park or neutral gear is that the vehicle won't even crank to prevent vehicle movements.
