The thermostat is fundamental to the vehicles system in order to keep it cool. It is located by the radiator and it helps keep the engine at the best range for max performance. It is vital that the thermostat is perfect because if the engine is too hot or too cool, the engine can be damaged as well as other components.
Mechanical thermostatsBimetal is a water and steam that is controlled by the metallic thermostat. While mechanical thermostats are used to control the dampers in the vents. Some heating systems have a valve that is controlled by the thermostat which allows the water and temperature to be adjusted to a certain level.
The wax pellet is used to maintain the engine at a stable temperature by controlling the amount of coolant that travels to the radiator by the expansion of the wax pellet. This component does not limit the amount of flow to the heater core on many makes.
There is also a pneumatic thermostat which restricts the heating or cooling system of tubes at a pressure of 15 to 18 psi.
Common issues with a bad thermostatA bad thermostat can lead to overheating, blown radiator hose, and inaccurate temperature markings.
