A universal joint has a spider (cross) along with four roller grease filled bearings which handle high torque at low friction levels. After the components are hot forged or cold formed and machined, they are carburized in a furnace to make them more lasting against tear and wear. Severe tolerance is used while grinding the parts to design size, and an oil seal combined with dust cover guards the internal journal area from being invaded by foreign materials.
